Telegram API Integration

Sometimes you do not need a new bot so much as a connection: your application sending, receiving or managing things on Telegram. We integrate Telegram with the systems you already run, using the official Bot API for most cases and MTProto only where deeper access is genuinely needed.

Bot API or MTProto: which one you need

Telegram offers two main ways for software to connect, and choosing the right one is the first decision in any integration.

Telegram Bot APIMTProto (client API)
Acts asA bot accountA regular user account
InterfaceSimple HTTPS requests and webhooksTelegram’s own protocol, through a client library
Best forBots, notifications, group and channel management, paymentsTasks bots cannot do, such as acting as a user account
SetupA token from @BotFatherAPI credentials from my.telegram.org and a logged-in account
RiskLow — the intended route for automationHigher — must follow Telegram’s terms closely to avoid account restrictions

We use the Bot API wherever it can do the job, which is most of the time. MTProto is powerful but carries more responsibility, and we only recommend it when a real requirement cannot be met otherwise — and never for spam, scraping private data or mass unsolicited messaging.

What we integrate

  • Webhooks so your server receives Telegram updates in real time, secured with Telegram’s secret token header.
  • Sending from your application — order updates, reports, documents and media triggered by events in your system.
  • Group and channel management — posting, pinning, creating invite links, approving join requests and moderating members.
  • Scheduled messaging — daily reports, reminders and content calendars posted automatically.
  • Media and file handling — receiving documents and images from users, processing them and storing them in your own storage.
  • Telegram Login on your website, so users can sign in with their Telegram account.
  • Mini Apps connected to your backend, with the user’s identity verified on the server.

Typical integration projects

  • A SaaS product adding Telegram as a notification channel its customers can connect to.
  • A D2C brand posting new products from its store to a Telegram channel automatically.
  • A coaching institute distributing daily worksheets and results to batch groups from its student system.
  • A media or news publisher scheduling posts across several channels from one content system.
  • A manufacturer receiving photos and reports from field staff directly into its internal records.

Details that make an integration reliable

  • Rate limits respected. Telegram limits how fast bots can send, both overall and per chat. We queue outgoing messages and handle “retry after” responses properly, so messages are delayed slightly rather than lost.
  • File size limits handled. The standard Bot API has limits on file downloads and uploads; for larger files we can run a local Bot API server, which raises them considerably.
  • Idempotent processing. Telegram may redeliver an update if your server was slow to respond. Each update is processed once.
  • Secrets kept safe. Bot tokens and API credentials live in environment configuration on your server, never in code repositories.
  • Error visibility. Failures are logged and, where it matters, reported to you.

Process and technology

We start by understanding what your system needs to do on Telegram and confirm which API supports it. Then we build the integration as a small, well-defined service or module inside your existing codebase, test it against a staging bot or channel, and deploy it alongside your application. Common tools include python-telegram-bot, aiogram and Telethon in Python, and grammY, Telegraf and GramJS in Node.js. Our API development team handles the wider integration work when Telegram is one of several systems being connected.

Security and staying within Telegram’s rules

An integration gives software the ability to act on your Telegram presence, so we treat credentials and permissions carefully.

  • Bots are given only the group and channel admin rights they need, nothing more.
  • Webhook endpoints verify Telegram’s secret token so forged updates are ignored.
  • MTProto sessions, where used, are stored encrypted and tied to an account you control.
  • We follow Telegram’s terms of service and API usage rules, and decline work designed for spam, bulk unsolicited messaging or harvesting users’ data.

Telegram updates its terms and API over time. If you take a maintenance plan, we watch for changes that affect your integration and update it when needed.

Frequently asked questions

Can you connect Telegram to tools like Google Sheets or n8n?

Yes. Telegram works well with automation platforms such as n8n and with spreadsheets, and for simple workflows that can be quicker than custom code. We recommend whichever approach fits the volume and reliability you need.

Should we use the Bot API or MTProto?

The Bot API in almost every case. It is simpler, officially intended for automation and lower risk. MTProto is only worth it when a requirement genuinely needs a user account’s capabilities, and it must be used within Telegram’s terms.

Can you integrate Telegram into our existing application?

Yes. We usually add a small module or service to your existing codebase or run it alongside, following your code style and deployment process.

Can our system send large files through Telegram?

Within limits. The standard Bot API caps file sizes, and running a local Bot API server raises those caps significantly. We confirm what your use case needs during discovery.

Will messages be lost if we send too many at once?

Not if the integration is built properly. We queue messages and respect Telegram’s rate limits and retry instructions, so bursts are delivered with a short delay instead of failing.
