Payment Bots

A payment bot lets customers pay without leaving Telegram, and only delivers the product, service or access once the payment is genuinely confirmed. Receipts and records are handled automatically and stored in your own database.

Selling inside the chat

When the sale happens in a conversation, sending the customer off to a separate website to pay loses people. A payment bot keeps the whole journey in one place: the customer chooses what they want, pays, and receives a confirmation and their purchase in the same chat.

The important part is invisible to the customer. The bot does not trust a screenshot or a “paid” button. It waits for the payment provider to confirm the transaction through a server-to-server webhook, checks that the amount and order match, and only then delivers.

Payment methods we can connect

  • UPI, cards and netbanking through Indian gateways such as Razorpay, typically via payment links or checkout pages opened from the chat.
  • Stripe for international card payments and subscriptions.
  • Telegram’s built-in payments, including Telegram Stars, which Telegram requires for many digital goods and services sold inside bots.
  • Crypto payments through a payment processor, where legal for your business and customers.
Telegram’s rules on which payment method can be used for which kind of product have changed in recent years, particularly for digital goods, and gateways have their own policies. We check the current rules for your product at the start of the project rather than assume.

Where payment bots are used

  • Coaching institutes collecting course or test-series fees.
  • Consultants and clinics taking booking deposits for appointments.
  • Creators and educators selling digital downloads or recorded courses.
  • Restaurants and home bakers accepting prepaid orders.
  • Communities charging for access, often alongside a Membership Bot.

What the build includes

  • Product or plan selection in the chat, with prices managed from an admin panel.
  • Gateway integration with webhook verification and signature checks.
  • Automatic invoices or receipts sent in the chat and, if needed, by email.
  • Explicit handling of failed, pending and partial payments, including reminders to complete an abandoned payment.
  • Refund recording and, where the gateway supports it, refunds triggered from the admin panel.
  • A full transaction log in your own database, reconcilable with the gateway’s reports.
  • Delivery on confirmation — a file, a link, an access code, a group invite or a booking.

How we build it

  1. Confirm your products, pricing model and which payment methods suit your customers.
  2. Check gateway onboarding requirements and Telegram’s current payment rules for your product type.
  3. Build the purchase flow and gateway integration in test mode.
  4. Test every path: success, failure, cancellation, duplicate webhook, timeout.
  5. Go live with small real transactions, then open it up.

Records, receipts and reconciliation

Every payment the bot handles leaves a clear trail. Each order gets its own reference, stored in your database with the customer’s Telegram ID, the product, the amount, the gateway transaction ID and the delivery status. That makes support questions such as “I paid but did not get access” quick to answer.

  • Receipts are generated in the format you need and sent in the chat, with a copy by email if the customer provides one.
  • Daily or weekly summaries of collections can be posted to a private admin chat.
  • Transaction exports line up with your gateway’s settlement reports for your accountant.
  • Refunds and cancellations are recorded against the original order rather than as unrelated entries.

If your invoices need specific tax or business details, we follow the format your accountant gives us rather than guessing at requirements.

What affects effort, and common mistakes

Effort depends on the number of gateways, one-time versus recurring payments, how delivery works, invoicing requirements and refund handling. Mistakes we help clients avoid:

  • Delivering on a button press rather than a verified webhook — an easy way to give products away.
  • Ignoring duplicate webhooks. Providers may send the same event more than once; the bot must deliver only once.
  • Keeping records only in the gateway dashboard. You need your own transaction history for support and accounting.
  • No path for failed payments. Customers who fail once often succeed on a second try if the bot offers one.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if a customer pays but the bot is down?

The gateway keeps retrying its webhook for a period, and we also reconcile against the gateway’s records on a schedule. Once the bot is back, confirmed payments are delivered automatically and nothing is lost.

Can customers pay by UPI inside Telegram?

Yes, typically through a gateway such as Razorpay, where the bot opens a payment link or checkout and confirms the result by webhook. The exact experience depends on the gateway and Telegram’s current payment rules.

How do you make sure a payment is real?

The bot only acts on a confirmation sent directly from the payment provider to your server, with its signature verified and the amount matched to the order. Screenshots and user claims are never trusted.

Do I need my own payment gateway account?

Yes. Payments go directly to your gateway account, and you complete the provider’s own onboarding. We do not collect money on your behalf.

Can the bot handle subscriptions?

Yes, using the gateway’s subscription features or renewal reminders with a fresh payment each period. For paid group access, see our Membership Bots service.
