App Install Campaigns

Installs are only the beginning. We run app campaigns on Google and Meta that are measured on activated users, with in-app events fed back so bidding favours people who actually use the app.

What app install campaigns involve

App campaigns promote your Android or iOS app across ad networks and send people to the app store. Google App campaigns run across Search, Google Play, YouTube, Discover and the Display Network using assets you provide, with Google assembling the ads. Meta app ads run across Facebook, Instagram and the Audience Network.

The common trap is optimising for installs alone. An install that is never opened has little value. We set up measurement so campaigns can optimise for in-app actions such as registration, first order, subscription or completed onboarding.

Who it’s for

  • D2C and e-commerce brands with a shopping app who want first purchases, not just downloads.
  • Ed-tech and coaching apps looking for learners who complete registration and start a course.
  • Food delivery and restaurant apps targeting first orders in specific cities.
  • Service booking apps for salons, clinics or home services.
  • Startups launching a new app and needing an initial base of engaged users.

What’s included

  • Measurement setup with Firebase or a mobile measurement partner, linked to Google Ads and Meta.
  • An in-app event plan: which actions matter and which should be used for optimisation.
  • Google App campaigns and Meta app campaigns structured by goal and region.
  • Creative in the formats each network serves: vertical and horizontal video, images and text assets.
  • Store listing review, since the listing is where the install decision is made.
  • Post-install event feedback so bidding learns from engaged users.
  • Reporting on cost per install and, more importantly, cost per in-app action.

Store listing and first experience

The ad gets someone to the app store; the listing decides whether they install. Screenshots, the first lines of the description, ratings and the icon all influence that decision. We review the listing alongside the campaign and suggest changes where they could help. After installation, the first session matters just as much: if registration is long or the value of the app is unclear, many users leave. We share what campaign data shows about drop-off, so your product team can act on it.

How we deliver it

  1. Measurement first. We confirm the SDK or attribution partner records installs and key in-app events correctly.
  2. Define success. Agree which in-app action represents a valuable user.
  3. Prepare assets. Videos, images and copy in the sizes and ratios each network uses.
  4. Launch for volume. Early campaigns gather enough data for the platforms to learn.
  5. Move to deeper events. Once event volume allows, campaigns optimise toward in-app actions rather than installs.
  6. Refresh creative regularly, since app ad creative fatigues quickly.

Tools we use

Campaigns run in Google Ads and Meta Ads Manager. Measurement usually relies on Firebase (with GA4) or a mobile measurement partner such as AppsFlyer, Adjust or Branch, plus the Meta SDK where appropriate. On iOS, Apple’s privacy framework affects how installs and events are reported, and we set expectations accordingly.

What affects results, timeline and cost

App campaign results depend on your store listing, ratings and reviews, creative, category competition, the regions targeted and, above all, the app experience. If users drop off in the first session, better ads will not fix that. Optimising for deeper events needs a certain volume of those events, so campaigns often start broader and narrow over time.

Measurement setup depends on your developers’ availability if SDK changes are needed. Management effort depends on platforms, regions and creative volume; ad spend is paid to each network. We do not promise install counts or cost per install.

Regional targeting also shapes results. Costs and user behaviour differ between metro cities, smaller towns and international markets, so we usually structure campaigns by region and judge each on its own in-app results rather than blending them.

Common mistakes

  • Optimising for installs forever and never feeding in-app events.
  • Supplying only one or two creative assets to Google App campaigns.
  • Ignoring the store listing, which is where the install decision happens.
  • Launching iOS and Android with identical expectations despite different measurement.

Another frequent issue is launching with events that fire incorrectly, for example counting an app open as a registration. We test events on real devices before campaigns rely on them.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a mobile measurement partner?

Not always. Firebase works well for many apps running on Google and Meta. An attribution partner becomes more useful when you run many networks and need one consistent view.

Can you optimise for purchases instead of installs?

Yes, once in-app purchase or other key events are tracked and there is enough event volume for the platforms to learn.

Can I choose where Google App campaign ads appear?

Control is limited. Google App campaigns place ads automatically across its networks based on your assets and goals. We focus on assets, targeting regions and optimisation events.

Do you work on iOS and Android?

Yes. We run campaigns for both, with measurement set up to account for the differences between platforms.

How long before campaigns can optimise for in-app actions?

That depends on how quickly the chosen event accumulates. High-volume events like registration often become usable sooner than purchases or subscriptions.
