What a product video needs to do
A product video replaces the moment a customer would pick the item up in a shop. They want to see its size, finish, how it opens, how it is used and what makes it different. Photos show some of this; video shows the rest, especially movement, texture and scale.
Editing is where raw product footage becomes persuasive. We choose the clearest angles, remove shaky or unflattering moments, add on-screen text for key features, and match the pacing and music to how the product is positioned. A premium watch and a kitchen gadget need very different rhythms, even if both are filmed on the same table.
Because the same product is sold in several places, one edit is rarely enough. A website hero video, a marketplace listing video and an Instagram ad each have different sizes, lengths and rules, so we plan versions from the start.
Who needs product videos
- D2C brands selling on their own website and on marketplaces.
- Jewellery shops showing sparkle, detail and how a piece sits when worn.
- Manufacturers demonstrating industrial products, machinery or components to buyers.
- Home décor and furniture sellers showing scale, material and assembly.
- Cosmetics and personal care brands showing texture, application and packaging.
- Food brands showing preparation, serving and packaging.
What’s included
- Shot selection and sequencing: the product introduced, shown in detail, then in use.
- Feature callouts: short on-screen labels for size, material, capacity or key benefits you provide.
- Colour correction: accurate colour so the product looks the way it does in real life.
- Background cleanup: simple fixes for distractions where footage allows.
- Music and pacing: licensed music matched to the product’s positioning.
- End card: brand, website, offer or where to buy.
Versions for every placement
| Where it is used | Common format |
|---|---|
| Website product page or hero | 16:9 or 1:1, MP4 (H.264), often without sound |
| Marketplace listings | Format and length per the marketplace’s current guidelines |
| Instagram and Facebook feed | 4:5 or 1:1 |
| Reels, Shorts and stories | 9:16 vertical |
Marketplaces such as Amazon and Flipkart update their video requirements from time to time, so we check the current guidelines for your seller account before exporting listing versions.
How we work
- Product brief: features that matter, target customer, positioning and where the video will appear.
- Footage check: we review your footage and suggest any missing shots, such as a close-up or an in-use clip.
- Master edit: one main version is edited and shared for feedback.
- Revisions: feature text, order and music are refined within agreed rounds.
- Versions and export: approved edit adapted into each format and labelled clearly.
If you have a range of similar products, we create a consistent template for callouts, colours and end cards. Each new product then follows the same style, so your catalogue looks unified and each edit is faster.
Tools
Product edits are done in Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, with DaVinci Resolve often used for colour work on product shots. Animated callouts and labels are built in After Effects. Music and any stock footage are licensed for commercial use.
What affects timeline and cost
- Number of products and whether they share a template.
- Footage quality: clean, well-lit footage needs far less correction.
- Callouts and animation: more features and more animation mean more time.
- Number of versions: each extra format or length adds export and checking time.
- Colour accuracy needs: products where exact shade matters, such as fabric or cosmetics, need careful grading.
Common product video mistakes
- Colours that do not match the real product, leading to disappointed customers and returns.
- Never showing the product in use or at a recognisable scale.
- Long slow intros before the product even appears.
- Relying on audio when website and marketplace videos often autoplay muted.
- Using one landscape export for every platform.
Frequently asked questions
Do you shoot the product videos too?
Our service focuses on editing. We can give you a simple shot list so footage recorded by you or a local photographer covers everything the edit needs.
Can product videos be edited from phone footage?
Yes, if the footage is well lit and steady. A plain background, natural or soft light and a few close-ups make a big difference.
Can you make videos for Amazon and Flipkart listings?
Yes. We export versions for marketplace listings and check the current requirements for your account, since these guidelines change from time to time.
Should product videos have music?
Often yes for social media, but website and marketplace videos frequently autoplay muted. We make sure the video works without sound through on-screen text, with licensed music as a bonus when sound is on.
Can you make a video from product photos only?
Yes. High-resolution photos can be animated with movement, zooms and callouts into a short product video. It will not replace real footage of the product in use, but it works well for catalogues and social posts.
