What an ERP does, in plain words
ERP stands for enterprise resource planning, which sounds grander than it is. In practice it means one shared set of data for purchase, stock, production, sales and accounts. When a purchase order is received, stock goes up. When a production batch consumes raw material, stock goes down and the finished goods appear. When the goods are dispatched, an invoice is raised and the receivable is recorded. Nobody types the same information twice.
Large packaged ERPs do all of this and a great deal more. For many small and mid-sized manufacturers, traders and distributors, a custom ERP covering exactly the modules they use — and matching how their shop floor and warehouse really work — is simpler to adopt and cheaper to live with.

You do not need all of them. Many projects start with inventory and purchase, add production once stock figures are trustworthy, and connect to an existing accounting package instead of replacing it.

Technology and integrations
We build ERP systems as web applications, typically with Python (Django) or Node.js on the server, PostgreSQL for its reliability with transactional data, and a React interface. Barcode and QR scanning, label printing and weighing-scale input can be included for warehouse and production staff. Where you already use accounting software, we export or sync vouchers rather than forcing a switch.
What drives timeline and cost
- The number of modules and how tightly they must interact.
- Production complexity — multi-level bills of materials and job work take more modelling than simple assembly.
- Batch, serial or expiry tracking requirements.
- Number of locations, companies or branches in one system.
- Integrations with accounting software, e-commerce stores or courier services.
- Quality of existing master data and how much cleanup it needs.
Pitfalls to avoid
- Automating a broken process. If nobody agrees how stock adjustments should work today, software will not settle the argument. We resolve it during discovery.
- Ignoring the shop floor. Screens designed in an office often fail in a warehouse. Store and production staff should test them.
- Skipping opening stock verification. If the starting figures are wrong, every report after that is wrong too.
- Too much customisation too early. Get the core flow right before adding every special case.
Frequently asked questions
Do we have to replace our accounting software?
Usually not. Many clients keep their existing accounting package and have the ERP export or sync sales, purchase and payment entries into it. We replace it only when there is a clear reason to.
How long before we see results?
Because we deliver module by module, the first module is typically in use well before the full system is complete. The exact timing depends on the scope agreed during discovery.
Can the ERP handle multiple warehouses or branches?
Yes. Multiple locations, stock transfers between them and branch-level reporting are common requirements and are designed into the data model from the start.
Can staff use barcode scanners?
Yes. We support barcode and QR scanning for receiving, picking, dispatch and stock counts, using standard scanners or phone cameras.
What if our process changes after go-live?
You own the code, so changes are a development task rather than a licensing negotiation. We offer ongoing support, or your own developers can continue the work.
